Made for the GMTK2026 game jam. Theme - 'Count Down'.

Description:

In Oil Thief, your life is constantly counting down as you burn fuel. Even more so - firing your gun, dashing, and the shops also cost oil! Stop the evil CEO from fracking the company into the ground! Fight through 3 procedurally generated levels and pick up upgrades along the way. But watch out - the faster you move, the heavier your gun - the more oil you'll burn!

CONTROLS:

WASD - Move

Mouse - Aim

Left mouse - Shoot (costs oil depending on the weapon) and click UI elements

Right mouse - Melee (sucks up oil from the enemy depending on their remaining health)

Space bar - Dodge (you're not invincible, but there is an upgrade for that).

Acknowledgements:

All art assets were made by me - but most were heavily inspired or take parts of online images edited to save time, including the base boss mech design by elfiem among a handful of others.

Sounds (and the music) were ripped from Pixabay, mostly courtesy of the freesoundcommunity, but others like the UI sounds courtesy of floraphonic.

I lightly touched each of them to balance the audio levels, cut out dead space, and and play with the EQ.

Check the game page comments for known bugs! There are a few, but the main gameplay loop is playable.

Thanks to Vixx and Moza for a 3am playtest!

KNOWN BUGS:

  • Shop before boss not spawning (well, it was, but the shop trigger wasn't triggering so I hid it)
  • Shop resets every time you walk into it instead of between floors
  • End button doesn't reset the game (you'll have to refresh)
  • No weapon SFX in the boss room for some reason
  • Probably some typos (like firey)
  • Right combo of weapon and upgrades can one-shot the boss (or maybe thats a good thing?)
  • Very small chance the shop and or the exit don't spawn - usually on the first floor. You'll have to restart in this case
  • Some upgrades carrying over between runs (refresh should clear everything)
